Yield: 2 standard loaf pans
Preheat oven to 320 F.
To make a loaf with a suspended heart in the centre:
Divide finished batter in half. Colour one half with a generous amount of red paste food colouring. Save the other half for later. Pour this coloured batter into a prepared loaf pan and bake until a toothpick comes out of the centre clean. Let loaf cool. Slice and cut each slice with a heart-shaped cutter.
Spray a clean loaf pan with non-stick spray. Put about ¼” saved batter in the bottom of the pan. Line up heart-shaped cooked loaf in centre of pan, on top of ¼” batter. Fill the pan with the rest of the batter, making sure the hearts stay upright. Bake for approximately one hour. Let cool, then slice and marvel at the suspended heart in the centre!
