The momstown Hamilton preschoolers are doing the ABC's of the Holiday season. We start off with A for Angel. The kids brainstormed a bunch of other words that begin with the letter A – apple, ant, alligator. It is interesting to note that the majority of A words have the short vowel sound ("ah") rather than long ("aa").
We have been working hard on scissor skills and the improvement is noticeable from month to month. Several of the kids were able to manage the straight sides with minimal help.
Once the kids had their letter A cut out then we glued them down and topped it with a circle for the face. The next step was to paint their hands with white paint to create hand print wings on either side of the A.
The kids also practiced their printing by sentence strips on which they can connect the printed dots to form the A and eventually attempt it on their own.
We wrapped up the morning by playing with a learning robot named Alphie. The kids loved selecting a card to put into Alphie. Each card focused on a different letter, number, colour or a matching activity. The kids enjoyed hearing Alphie talk to them and how they could interact with him.
